James Kaminsky is a senior editorial director and digital content strategist whose career has spanned both print and digital media, leading teams at some of the most recognized brands in the publishing industry. His professional background includes managing editorial operations for Maxim, Playboy, Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, Realtor.com, and Homes.com, with a steady focus on developing compelling content strategies and guiding editorial teams. James grew up in Westport, Connecticut, and later attended Boston University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Film and Broadcast Journalism. During his college years, he wrote for the university newspaper and completed an internship at the Boston Globe, gaining valuable early experience in journalism. After college, he moved to New York, launching his career in business publishing and eventually rising to the position of editor-in-chief at Act III Communications. In that role, he directed content that covered entertainment, business, and technology, leading a team of writers and editors. Seeking broader experience, he moved into consumer media, freelancing for various respected publications before stepping into senior editorial roles at Men’s Journal and Conde Nast Sports for Women. At Men’s Journal, he helped shape the magazine’s editorial approach, and at Conde Nast, he worked on the process of launching a new publication in a large media environment. In 1999, James joined Maxim as executive editor, taking an active role in expanding the magazine’s reach as it entered the U.S. market. He then accepted the editorial director role at Playboy, where he worked to update the publication’s content and connect with new audiences while maintaining its established identity. James went on to lead editorial projects at Rolling Stone and Men’s Journal, focusing on developing digital content and modernizing editorial strategies. Returning to Maxim, he contributed to efforts to adapt the brand to a changing media environment. He later led an editorial at Life Reimagined for AARP. Then, he spent more than eight years as Senior Editorial Director at Realtor.com, building a digital news operation and significantly expanding its online presence. Most recently, he led luxury real estate content at Homes.com. Outside of work, James Kaminsky enjoys cycling, hiking, and films. He currently works as an independent consultant and writer, bringing his editorial expertise to a variety of clients and projects.
